| A lot of ladies live at a busy pace today. Many work on a full time basis. They take their children to day care services and afterschool activities. And a lot of women have the added responsibility of being the household "car care manager." While automobile care, typically, has been considered "men's responsibility", research by the Auto Care Council shows that ladies represent 60% of automobile service customers in North America, and women spend more than $300 billion yearly on car maintenance, repairs and used cars.
To help keep ladies "on the go," ladies are advised to visit their local auto service during April Car Care Month to ensure that their car follows the safety requirements. Maintenance inspectors will point out items requiring service that can help a car run better, last longer, preserve its value and render optimum safety and security.
Beneath are safety and maintenance recommendations that help a vehicle run at its best prior to the spring and summer travel seasons.
Tyre Tips
Blowouts: If your tyre sustains a blowout while you are driving, do not slam on the brakes. Doing so can cause the motor vehicle to swerve in the direction of the blowout. Instead, gently put on the brakes to recover control and slowly head the motor vehicle to a safe place away from the road.
Air pressure: To avoid under-inflation, it is recommended to check your tyres' air pressure, at least, once a month and before every long journey. Tyres must be checked when they are cold - that is, when they have run no more than one mile (1.6 km). Under-inflation usually brings on tyre blowouts.
Tyres lose air through a process known as permeation. Changes in outdoor temperature can affect the rate at which a tyre blows out. Commonly, a tyre loses one pound to two pounds of pressure monthly, and even more when the weather is warm.
According to the Rubber Manufacturers Association (RMA), every time the outdoor temperature decreases by 10 degrees Fahrenheit, the air pressure in your tyres decreases 1-2 pounds per square inch.
By observing the tips above you will be secure on the road. |
